Celebrating the graduation of 9 new Certificate III graduates in Mackay, Centurion recently announced that the program has successfully guided 45 graduates through the certification since 2021.

Certificate III in Supply Operations is a foundational program that equips participants with a solid understanding of logistics processes, supply chain management, and road transport regulations, preparing them for entry-level roles in the industry and serving as a steppingstone for career advancement.

Certificate III in Transport and Logistics (Driver and Supply Operations) equips graduates with the skills needed to oversee teams and operations effectively. Specifically, it fosters leadership development, empowering graduates with supervisory skills for effective team management and operational optimisation.

The recent graduation celebrated the achievements of Helene Ruhl, Brendan Turnbull, Jenna Wells, Monali Perera, Tiarni Botefuhr, Jamie Bear, Clesia Ape, Reece Williams, and Mark Geekie.

Centurion’s Mackay Branch Operations Manager, Jodie Van Sluys, emphasised the valuable contribution of from the Saltera Training team, who have supported the program over the years.

“Ian’s dedication to working individually with all our students, irrespective of their educational background or learning pace, reflects his profound understanding of our company’s diverse workforce.”

In collaboration with the Saltera team the program commenced in October 2021 and has resulted in the successful commencement of 40 new employees in Mackay, on Certificate III level traineeships.

“The exceptional quality of training provided on-site, tailored to our operations by trainer Ian, alongside the seamless coordination and collaboration from the broader Saltera team, has been exemplary. This success led to the expansion of Saltera’s delivery of traineeships to other Centurion branches in Queensland without hesitation,” said Ms Van Sluys.

Centurion recognises that training is crucial for future-proofing the workforce, particularly through on-site, role-relevant traineeships. Saltera has proven itself as a training organisation that operates with integrity, flexibility, and industry currency.

Graduates from this program complete both the Certificate III in Supply Operations and in Transport and Logistics and gain hands-on experience in critical logistics environments that help to equip them with practical, real-world skills.

The Certificate III in Supply Operations programs ensures regulatory compliance by imparting comprehensive knowledge of road transport regulations, which reduces legal risks for employers. Additionally, it facilitates skill diversification, as graduates acquire a broad range of skills applicable across various roles in the transportation and logistics sector.

Lastly, it enhances industry awareness by exposing participants to industry-specific technologies and practices, fostering adaptability and familiarity with emerging trends.

Similarly, the Certificate III in Transport and Logistics (Driver and Supply Operations) brings numerous advantages. Building upon the foundation of the Certificate II program, this advanced program delves deeper into complex logistics concepts.

The Certification enhances problem-solving abilities, enabling graduates to tackle complex operational challenges, thus ensuring smoother operations. Completion of this program also brings industry recognition and qualifies individuals for more advanced roles, leading to career growth. Graduates are prepared to take on responsibilities related to coordination, supervision, and even leadership roles within the industry.

The achievements of the graduates underscores the commitment of both Centurion and Saltera to future-proofing the workforce through quality training, paving the way for continued growth and success within the transportation and logistics sector.

Centurion was quick to lend their assistance this weekend to help transport over 1,000 tonnes of hay to drought affected farmers.

Farmers in NSW and Queensland are calling it the worst drought in living memory. A week ago the NSW government said “100 per cent” of the state is now in drought with a quarter of the state in intense drought.

In response, 22 hay-loaded road trains headed east on Monday morning. They’re travelling towards Ceduna through to Port Augusta before stopping in Condoblin NSW. The hay was purchased through charitable donations from Australia and around the world.

Centurion’s Executive General Manager Operations West, Gary Nurick says the company was glad to be able to support the initiative.

“We were amazed by the relief operation organised by the Rapid Relief Team [RRT] in less than a week. A few of our drivers were quick to volunteer their time and they’ve done a fantastic job of supporting the effort to help out the farmers who are going through a tough time at the moment.”

Drivers Barrie Chilton and Peter Jewell both have a link to the farming community. “I’ve been involved with agriculture before and I know how hard it can be” said Peter. “Barrie also used to be a farmer so he knows first-hand what it’s like so we both were happy to volunteer.”

Barrie has been blown away by the support they’ve received along the journey.

“Everyone’s on the radio saying good job, people are waving and flashing their lights,” he said.

“We’re thankful to everyone along the way who’s helped us out and fed us. The RRT has run it really well, it’s been a great effort by everyone involved,” added Barrie.

The convoy is due to arrive on Friday. It will be distributed to farmers in Condoblin, Tullamore, Tottenham, Nymagee, and Lake Cargelligo and used to feed approximately 1000 cows or 20,000 sheep for 20 weeks.

The trucks are currently in Port Augusta.

Centurion has consolidated its position as the largest heavy haulage provider in Australia with the acquisition of Triton Transport Services, a specialist Western Australian heavy haulage and general freight business.

The acquisition will complement Centurion’s existing haulage and general freight services, reinforcing our position as the leading Western Australian transport and logistics business.

Through the transaction we will acquire more than 250 pieces of equipment including large scale prime movers, specialist heavy haulage platforms and 100 general freight trailers along with the team of logistics specialists from Triton Transport.

Centurion’s CEO Justin Cardaci said the acquisition was in line with the business’ strategic vision to be the leading logistics partner for businesses in the commodity rich communities of Australia and it reaffirmed its commitment to the Western Australian market place.

“We’re delighted to welcome Triton Transport Services to our business. They are a highly respected logistics provider that specialise in the mining and mining services sectors in WA so this acquisition is strategically sound for our business.”

“They have a strong reputation for safety and reliability as well as a diverse range of specialist capabilities that includes heavy machinery transport for equipment up to 200 tonnes.

Mr Cardaci said the acquisition would give Centurion a platform for growth and the capacity to undertake additional work in the heavy haulage markets at a critical time in the economy.

“There is an increasing amount of project activity in the WA mining sector as economic conditions improve and these additional resources will position us well to capitalise on this upturn,” he said.

As part of the acquisition former Triton Transport Services owner Ben Murphy will become Centurion’s General Manager of Heavy Haulage in WA.

“Ben is a highly regarded member of the industry with a wealth of experience in servicing companies that operate in the resources industry. He will become a vital part of the Centurion team as we look to continue our strong growth both in WA and Queensland.”

The acquisition follows Centurion’s recent purchase of part of the Fuel Trans Australia business as well as our diversification into the Queensland transport and logistics market at the beginning of 2017.

“This is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to capitalising on this acquisition and to continue on our pathway to become the leading logistics partner in the commodity rich communities of Australia,” Mr Cardaci concluded.

Centurion has transported vital supplies from Dampier to Broome by barge as major road access to the region became impassable following the tropical storm and Cyclone in January and February.

Working with its large retail supermarket customers and Bhagwan Marine, Centurion commissioned a barge and redirected road freight through the ports of Dampier and Broome to ensure the much needed food and supplies reached the local community.

Centurion loaded seven refrigerated trailers of produce on to a barge at Dampier port to arrive in Broome two days later and then used its local fleet to distribute the goods to the local supermarkets.

This process was repeated at the end of February when Broome took another drenching with main roads totally impassable again.

The produce was used to stock shelves of the retailers which were running low following the damaging floods.

As part of its strategies to ensure its supply routes to the Kimberley remained open, Centurion also begun redirected road freight bound for Kununurra through Port Augusta and Katherine South.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-1506" src="https://centurion.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/FLOODING-Perth-to-Kununurra-and-Barge-to-Broome-1024x724.png" alt="Centurion has also begun redirecting road freight bound for Kununurra through Port Augusta and Katherine South.
Redirecting freight via this route is 2,095 kilometres and 24 hours longer.

Centurion CEO Justin Cardaci said the company did all it could to support the local community.

“As a Western Australian company with a strong connection to the regions we looked at a number of options to ensure vital food supplies got through to the local communities.”

“The damage to road infrastructure was significant and we anticipated that the roads would be impassable in the region for some time.

“Our main concern was ensuring we get food to the area and with the road network impassable, the sea was the only other viable option to move large quantities of produce.

“We worked with our major supermarket customers to look at the best solutions to move their freight to the Kimberley.”

Record rains swamped Broome, dumping twice the annual rainfall on the popular tourist spot in less than two months.

Tropical Cyclones Joyce and Kelvin, combined with a severe storm, drenched the Kimberley isolating people in towns including Broome, Derby and Halls Creek from the south of the state.

Centurion will help drive road safety messages to regional Western Australia as part of a strategic partnership with the Road Safety Commission.

A number of Centurion’s hard-sided fridge trailers, measuring more than 13 metres in length and two and a half meters in height, will become ‘mobile bill boards’ carrying a range of messages aimed at improving the behaviours of drivers in regional Western Australia.

The first trailers to be branded will carry strong anti drink driving messages.

Two of the first four trailers will service Centurion’s North West route that includes Karratha, Port Hedland, Broome and Kununurra, while the other two will service Kalgoorlie. Drink driving has been identified as a significant road safety problem in both of those regions.

The idea to brand the trailers is in recognition of regional Western Australia’s poor road safety record and the difficulty of communicating road safety messages to people living and travelling to the regions.

Centurion vehicles travel more than 40 million kilometres each year, providing essential goods to a number of industries and regions, predominantly in Western Australia.

Centurion Chief Executive Justin Cardaci said the organisation was proud to be part of the Government’s new road safety campaign.

“We are a business very much focused on the safety of our people, the people we deal with and the communities we operate in. So, carrying messages on our trailers with the aim of keeping all road users safe is a great fit with us.

“As a business that services the regions we recognise the regional road toll is an issue in the State and we are committed to playing our part in trying to positively impact this.

“If we can help save the life of even one person then we will have been doing our bit.”

Mr Cardaci said Centurion had a zero tolerance approach to alcohol across its workforce so his message to drivers was simple.

“If you are drinking, then don’t even think about getting behind the wheel and stay off the roads,” Mr Cardaci concluded.

Western Australia’s largest transport and logistics provider Centurion is building on its local business after opening a new $10m Karratha depot at Gap Ridge.

Local Member for the Pilbara, Brendon Grylls, and Executive Chairman of the CFC Group, the parent company of Centurion, Philip Cardaci, officially opened the facility at a breakfast event on 13 November.

The company, which first started delivering to Karratha in 1968, has a long history of servicing both the businesses and people of the City.

The company was founded by brothers Frank and Carl Cardaci in the late 1960’s after they purchased a solitary truck. The first load they delivered was to Karratha the same year.

Nearly 50 years later Centurion has grown from a one truck company into the full logistics solution provider it is today with the City of Karratha remaining central to its future growth plans.

Centurion now provides transport, logistics, supply base and warehousing capabilities in the region.

According to Centurion Executive General Manager Justin Cardaci, the history of the company and Karratha are inextricably linked.

“Karratha has been part of this company from the start. We’ve been involved in every major infrastructure project in the area.

“Over the years we’ve transported critical infrastructure for the City and partnered with companies that construct and then operate the vast projects that underpin the local economy.”

“Whether it be equipment or parts for multi-billion dollar projects, or consumer goods the likely hood is that it will have arrived here via one of Centurions trucks or refrigerated units.”

Mr Cardaci said the new facility would help Centurion service the businesses and people of the city as it grows in the years to come.

“We now have the capability to better service our local customers by improved throughput and turnaround at the Depot.

“Basically as soon as something arrives we can turn it around quicker and get it delivered to its end destination in a shorter time frame.”

Mr Cardaci said that building relationships with local businesses and listening to them no matter how big or small they may be was a key ingredient for the company’s growth.

“We hope we can continue to offer value locally and the opening of this facility demonstrates our continued commitment to the City of Karratha.

Centurion and Ramco, a global leader in pipe care excellence, have formed a strategic partnership aimed at securing a foothold in Western Australia’s multi-million dollar tubular management market.

The partnership brings together Ramco’s technical expertise with Centurion’s supply chain and logistics capability.

As part of the partnership a new semi-automated pipe care unit (PCU3) has been commissioned by Ramco at Centurion’s new Gap Ridge facility in Karratha.

The PCU Type 3 is a state of the art internal and external cleaning and treatment of Oil & gas tubular for the industry.

The plant is considered to be the only automated plant of its type in Australia leading to improved cleaning, significant efficiencies during processing and costs reductions.

The PCU Type 3 will be operated by Ramco while Centurion will look after transport logistics, handling and supply base capability for the pipe.

Centurion Executive General Manager Justin Cardaci said the partnership was a unique opportunity for both companies.

“This is an exciting venture for Centurion because it allows us to combine our business’ core capabilities with Ramco’s technical expertise to produce what we believe is a safer, low cost, more efficient and higher quality way of processing OCTG pipe.

“This is at a time when oil and gas companies are looking to markedly reduce their costs,” Mr Cardaci said.

Ramco CEO Derek Smith said the strategic partnership was a perfect platform for Ramco to enter the Australian market.

“We bring 30 years’ worth of international experience to this partnership as well as state of the art technology, having processed and inspected more than 6 million joints worldwide”.
