Centurion’s autumn road safety campaign, aimed at creating awareness among road users, holiday makers and caravanners of the risks of interacting with road trains, has been a big success with a driver interview with key safety tips going viral with more than 650,000 views online.

You can watch the video here.

As part of the campaign Centurion created a dedicated web page and distributed more than 2500 flyers through regional road houses, caravan parks and branches with tips for safely overtaking and being overtaken by road trains.

Centurion’s General Manager of HSEQ Luke Beeston said the campaign has surpassed all expectations.

“We have had really positive feedback to the campaign from a variety of stakeholders, most importantly from the touring community,” Mr Beeston said.

“It’s highlighted that there was a real need for this type of information and it’s great that we have been able to take the lead in raising awareness of this issue and promote better road safety across the community.”

The campaign was developed in response to a recent survey that found that 80% of Centurion’s drivers had witnessed or experienced a close call with a caravan or grey nomad in the last two years.

An ABC North West reporter rode along with Centurion driver Marty Baldwin and the online article received over 300,000 views. The social media video accompanying the story has been viewed over 730,000 times giving us confidence that the safety message has been spread far and wide.

The second phase of the campaign will include some radio advertising to reinforce the safety message so keep an eye on the Centurion Facebook page.
